Web analytics without cookies

Every number that matters on one screen: visitors, sources, UTM campaigns, content groups and conversions, compared with the period before. Nothing is stored in the visitor’s browser, no IP address is kept and the data stays in the European Union.

What it is for

What it helps you with

  1. 01

    Counting without cookies

A visit is counted with a fingerprint that changes every day, not with a cookie. Nothing is stored in the visitor’s browser.

  2. 02

    Clear, not complicated

Eight sections instead of hundreds of reports: what happened, where visitors came from and what they did — readable without training.

  3. 03

    Your products as rows

Content groups such as /products/*/ turn the dashboard into a report per product, service or article. One click narrows everything to one item.

In detail

How it works under the hood

How a visitor is counted without cookies

Each request gets a fingerprint: an HMAC of the site, the IP address and the browser signature, keyed with a random salt that changes every day. Only the first 8 bytes are stored and the salt of the day before is deleted, so a fingerprint can neither be traced back to an IP address nor linked to another day. A visit ends after 30 minutes without a request.

What “engaged” means

A pageview counts as engaged when the visitor is active on the page for at least 15 seconds, or scrolls through three quarters of it after at least 5 seconds. Time counts only while the tab is in front, so a page left open in the background does not inflate it.

Channels, AI assistants included

Every visit gets a channel: search, direct, social networks, e-mail, paid, referral, offline (QR codes and print by their UTM medium) — and AI assistants as a channel of their own. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot and Gemini are recognised by their address, and UTM parameters win over the referrer, so a campaign lands where you tagged it.

Events that count by themselves

Clicks on outbound links, downloads, phone numbers and e-mail addresses, site searches, 404 pages, the start and the submit of forms, JavaScript errors and quick backs are recorded without any setup. Your own events come from a data-visitics attribute, one line of JavaScript or your server — and orders with their value from the shop plugins.

The map and devices, without fingerprinting

The country, region and city come from the DB-IP Lite database at the start of a visit; only the city is stored, never the address. The map is drawn from our own OpenStreetMap tiles, not from Google Maps. The device follows the window width (under 768 px a phone, under 1,024 px a tablet) and browsers are recorded as families without versions — exact versions would only help to tell people apart.

Periods and comparisons

Today, 7, 30, 90 or 365 days, or your own range of up to two years within the history of your plan, always against the period before. The dashboard reads daily summaries, so a busy site opens in a moment; today and yesterday are recalculated continuously, and bots are filtered out before anything is counted.

Everything it does

Everything in Web analytics

  • Visitors, pageviews, engaged visits, bounces, time on page and scroll depth
  • Channels, sources, referring sites and UTM campaigns, visits from AI assistants included
  • Content groups by path patterns; one product or service filters the whole dashboard
  • Key steps and goals from clicks, page rules, the data-visitics attribute or events from your server
  • Pages with time, engagement, exits and frustration; entry and exit pages, site search and 404 pages
  • Countries, regions and cities on our own map; devices, browsers, systems and languages
  • On the site right now: the visitors of the last five minutes and their pages
  • Any period with a comparison, from today back to the history of your plan

Privacy

What is stored — and what is not

Stored

  • Daily summaries of pages, sources, devices and events
  • Raw records of visits with an 8-byte fingerprint, for 30 days
  • The country, region and city of a visit

Never stored

  • Cookies or anything else in the visitor’s browser
  • The IP address and the full browser signature (User-Agent)
  • Anything that follows one person across days or websites

Questions

Questions about Web analytics

Do I need a cookie banner because of Visitics?

Visitics stores nothing in the browser and keeps no IP address; it is designed along the criteria of the French authority CNIL for measurement that does not require consent. The final assessment is up to the website operator — that is why Visitics can also wait for consent from your cookie banner, and it always respects the Global Privacy Control signal.

Why do the numbers differ from Google Analytics?

Google Analytics does not count visitors who decline its cookies, and it recognises a returning visitor across days. Visitics counts visits without cookies and recognises a visitor within one day. Differences are therefore normal — compare trends rather than single numbers.

Can I measure several websites?

Yes. Every plan has its number of websites (see the table above) and an organization sees all of them in one list. From Aura on, members can be limited to selected websites — useful for agencies and their clients.

How long is the data kept?

Raw records of visits are deleted after 30 days. The daily summaries stay for the history of your plan, and a downgrade by mistake loses nothing for another 30 days.

Does Visitics work on single-page applications?

Yes. A change of the address through the History API counts as a new pageview, with its own time, scroll depth and clicks.

Will the script slow my site down?

The script has under 6 kB compressed, loads with defer after the page and sends the events of a page together: a typical page costs two requests — the script and one batch — plus a short summary when the page is left.
